Make an Ice Pack? Easy Peasy!

By Maricarmen Raya and April West

Making your own ice pack at home is easy, affordable and doesn’t require a trip to the store. Homemade ice packs are simple to make and more comfortable than your store-bought ice packs. These ice packs will mold to your body with out any lumps or bumps.

What you will need:

  1. Rubbing Alcohol -1 Cup
  2. Water- 2 Cups
  3. Quart Size Ziploc bag - 1 Required, 2 is optional (see below)

What to do:

  1. Place rubbing alcohol and water into Ziploc bag
  2. Try and get as much air out of the freezer bag before sealing it*
  3. Place in freezer. Freeze for at lease an hour can take up to 4 hours to freeze

*OPTIONAL- Place the bag with its contents inside a second freezer bag (leakage protection)

Ice Guide

Use caution by:

  • Never placing the ice pack directly on skin (wrap between a towel)
  • Only using for 15-20 minutes at a time
  • Keeping your ice packs out of the reach of children
  • Calling your medical doctor or trusted physical therapist in the event your injury is more than what an ice pack can do for you
